Mixed Media Inspiration – Abstract and Messy Art Journal Collage

Hi there, Susanne here with an abstract mixed media spread in one of my handmade junk art journals. On this page I played with collage, paint, stamps and mark making. I so enjoy this loose and playful process! It’s perfect to relax from a busy day!

I started the background of this page with handmade collage papers including handmade washi tape, stamped rice paper and stamped old book paper. I adhered the torn pieces with a glue stick and covered the whole spread with a layer of clear gesso. I applied some white gesso as well to bring in some white space. To add even more interest to the background I added some stamping with Mixed Media Marks 1 and painted circles with neon pink acrylic ink.

I wrote the word “now” with black ink and a calligraphy brush, then stamped the same letters with our Alphabet Uno stamp set. I added some paint splatters and mark makings with Neocolor Crayons.
