Art Journal Page Tutorial with Sketchy Birds
Hello, Samantha here today and I’m sharing a page from a new, small art journal. I used three stamp sets, Sketchy Birds 2, Collage Leaves and Pencil Marks 1. My journal page measures just 4 inches by 4 inches. I’ve found that using smaller pages makes you look at the stamps in quite a different way, I ordinarily would have used whole images of the birds but couldn’t for this size page and I quite like the effect.
To begin my page I started by creating the background, I used just three watercolours for the whole project.
Using the same coloured acrylic paints I stamped using stamps from the Pencil Marks 1 set, don’t forget to wash your stamps straight away if you do this, you don’t want the paint to dry on your stamp.
The next step was using some of the stamps from the Collage Leaves stamp set, this time archival ink, I like using second and third generation impressions for adding variation and depth.
Next I needed to plan where a couple of the birds from the Sketchy Birds 2 stamp set were going to be and stamped them, this meant less intricate cutting around the feet and I knew where to draw the branch.
I finished the page by stamping the same birds on to white card and colouring with watercolours.
Final touches were a few more stamped images using Pencil Marks 1 and some white inky splats and details with a Posca pen on some of the leaves.
Thanks for stopping by, Sam x
