Rainbow Art Journal Page Tutorial with Ecoline Inks

Hey, Rubber Dancers! Selene’s today on the blog with a colourful rainbow art journal page, super easy and quick to make. Ah yes, and satisfying as well! I am using Ecoline Inks (any liquid watercolor will work) together with our Cross It stencil and stamps from Pencil Marks 7, Mixed Media Marks 1 and Mix It Up 4.

Let’s go, then!
I started from an A4 watercolour (300g) page and squared it. I sprayed water here and there, but not too much, because I wanted to keep a few dry spots. Why? If you throw a glance on the page, you’ll see that you’ll find both sharp and smooth border lines. I aimed to have a variety of reactions and behaviours of the inks.
Then, I started putting some Ecoline watercolour inks on the page. I have the basic package with the three primary colours, plus green and a sort of a dark grey. As you can see, they are super bright, easy to blend and beautiful!
When I use these inks I usually pour a few drops of each colour on a palette and then I immediately prepare all the colours mixed with each other, to have everything ready to use.
Preparing watercolours allows you to work in a quicker way, avoiding spots and preventing paper from drying while you’re still working on it.

When the paper was completely dry, I picked Cross It stencil and I used it to create a texture on my background. I went in with Distress Oxides using the same tint and shades of the background colours.
White and coloured splashes complete this first layer.

Then, I stamped a few elements more from Mixed Media Marks 1 and Pencil Marks 1, following the same process, until I was happy with the result. As usual, at a certain point I felt it was taking the “too much” direction… and finally I was able to stop! 😀

I stamped a couple of border elements from the Mix It Up 4 set with distress oxides and cut them off, to create a line where my focal images could settle in. Instead of just gluing them, I preferred to sew them on my page.
As a focal image, I chose leaves and flowers from Pencil Marks 7 set. I painted the flowers with the leftovers of the Ecoline colours I still had on my palette and kept the leaves of the plants in B&W, not to have them sinking into the background.

Sentiments are the last touch on my page. Messages are aways important.

See you on social media and our blog page!
