Abstract Mini Collage with Mark Making and Paper Scraps

Hi there, Susanne here! I’m sharing a mixed media collage in one of my mini spiral bound art journals that I use to create quick collages. I usually use left over papers on these spreads. For this page I used stamps from our Mix It Up 4 stamp set to give the papers more interesting textures. I also added some mark making with crayons to create more interest. I really love to create pages in these kind of journal, as they don’t take too much time and allow me a creative break even during busy times.

I am using a glue stick to adhere the papers and did the markmaking with Neocolors. Using a gluestick works much quicker that using gel medium. I prefer this in my art journal. If I’d make a piece of art to hang up I’d pick gel medium instead. The papers are mainly snippets from gelli prints or the cleaning papers from a gelli printing session. I always try not to hoard too many small pieces of collage papers, as this becomes quite overwhelming when the collection grows and grows and grows…. so I allow myself only to pick from these scraps and not cutting up new papers. This is also kind of a challenge which feeds your creative mojo! I recommend trying this out.

Here is a little glimpse to show you my process:

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
