Abstract Watercolor Art with Mark Making and Inky Friends

Hi there, Susanne here with an abstract watercolor spread. I did this in a big spiral bound sketchbook containing usual drawing paper. To bring in texture I used mark making and different stamps from Pencil Marks 1 and Mixed Media Marks 1. My focal image is the Bumble Bee from Inky Friends. Scroll down for a process video.

I worked loosely with the paints and painted square shapes in different complementary colours. I let the colours bleed into each other. After this was dry I added some faux stitching borders and other images from Mixed Media Marks 1 and Pencil Marks 1.

To bring in even more interest I did a lot of mark making with pencils and Neocolors. I stamped the Bumble Bee directly to the center of the spread. To make the Bumble Bee stand out I also stamped it to some orange collage paper, cut it out directly on its outlines and glued this into the stamped image on the page.

I added highlights with a white posca paint pen.
