Art Journal Page with Textured Mushrooms and Distress Oxide Sprays

Hi everyone! It’s Peley Renata with you today with a fun and colorful art journal page with Distress Oxide Ink Sprays. The inspiration for this project came from this older but still really gorgeous stamp set called Textured Mushrooms.
So, naturally the first step was to stamp and color these cute mushrooms. And for that, I decided to use alcohol markers.

After coloring and fussy cutting the mushrooms, I already started to plan a layout and felt like I need some more elements – some foliage. So, the next product from the Rubber Dance collection that I used was the Sketchy Leaves 1 stencil. At this point, I found it important for the leaves to match the style of the mushrooms, so I colored my foliage with alcohol markers and gave them some texture using Mixed Media Marks 1 stamp set.

With my images ready, it was time to start working on the background. The first step was to use Distress Oxide Sprays in Mermaid Lagoon, Salvaged Patina and Speckled Egg colors. The goal was to create kind of an ombre effect, but to make it more fun, when my Distress Oxides were dry, I placed the Rainbows 2 stencil and sprayed a bit of clear water for the ink lift technique which works great with Distress Oxide products.

At this point I really got in a crafty mood, so I did a couple more techniques to add some more background interest. Once again, I reached for the Mixed Media Marks 1 stamp set and did some heat embossing with a white embossing powder, some stamping with water (ink lift technique) and some simple stamping with a black ink. Using the Distress Oxide Ink Pad Black Soot, I darkened the bottom edge of my paper and after all that, my background looked something like this:

Now that I was happy with my background, the only thing left to do was to adhere my elements and a quote. For some of the elements I used a liquid glue, while for the others I used a bit of foam tape for some dimension. With my layout complete, I adhered my page to the black album and that was it for this project.

Well, I hope you enjoyed and that I managed to inspire you. Don’t forget that I have a step-by-step video on my YouTube channel as well. Wish you all a nice crafty day!
