Art Journal Page with Textured Feathers

Hello arty friends, how are you all.

Life’s been very busy but I’ve finally got round to playing in my art journal which I haven’t been able to do in a while. So today I am sharing a mixed media step by step tutorial with Distress Oxides, some stencil texture and the Textured Feathers stamp set.

First I created some backgrounds using Distress Oxides. I swiped 3 colours on my craft mat, spritzed with some water that has a little bit of gold mica powder in it, which creates a little sparkle on the dry page. I swiped my white card through the colour and left to dry.

I then stamped a selection of feathers on these pages. In my journal I began by gluing some ephemera on the page using matte medium.

Once this was dry I covered the page in a light layer of gesso to make the background look more cohesive. I used similar colours to one of my Distress Oxide backgrounds and the Organic 3 stencil, as well as some mark making to add more interest.

I used gold acrylic paint for more mark making and scraped some of it around the edges with an old credit card. I also added some magenta ink splatter.

Finally I arranged and glued down the feathers and a stamped quote.
