Art journal page with Textured Sea Creatures and Distress Oxide background

Hi! It’s Peley Renata with you today with a summer vibe art journal page using the lovely Textured Sea Creatures stamps on a Distress Oxide background using the Organic 1 stencil. The inspiration for this project came from the beautiful sunny days that we have here in Hungary but also from the lovely stamps.

The first step for this project was to prepare my images. And since I was in a mood to use alcohol markers, I stamped my seahorses using dye ink (in my case Tsukineko Memento ink in Tuxedo Black color) on a marker-friendly paper (Spectrum Noir premium Marker Pad).

Now that the images were ready, it was time to start working on the background. I was inspired to create something cheerful, so I went with very bright colors from the Distress Oxide range – Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers. I know that these are not typical sea colors but to follow the theme, I wanted some fluidity and movement in my background which influenced the way I applied the colors. I smushed the inks on my glass mat, sprayed some clear water and picked up the color with the paper that I was going to use for the base of my art journal page.

Well, this was beautiful, but I have to complicate things a bit for my backgrounds so the next step was adding some stenciling using the same Distress Oxide inks and the Rubber Dance Organic 1 Stencil.

To further embellish my background, I did some tone-on-tone stamping using the Mixed Media Marks 1 stamp set and some heat embossing with white powder and the sand dollar stamp.

To add some more texture and interest to my project, I thought to bring in some beautiful thread from my stash.  And again, I wanted fluidity in the project so I decided to attach it very loosely using a simple sticking tape. I adhered the tape only on the back of the page so it wouldn’t be visible at all.

To fix the thread on the front, I used my focal images (which had foam tape on the back) and some sequin which I adhered using a liquid glue.

Now I had only a couple of steps left. Adding some glittery details here and there, adhering my page to a black cardstock base and adding a sentiment. My quote was assembled from a couple of random words from the Mix a Sentiment stamp set.

And that is it for this project. As always, I have a YouTube video available as well and I will leave you the link for that here:

Thank you so much for spending some time with me. I hope I managed to inspire you and have a nice crafty day!

Renata
