Art Journal Tutorial with Distress Inks and Vintage Stuff

Hi there, Susanne here with a vintage style art journal page tutorial using Distress Inks & Oxides together with our Vintage Stuff stamp set and some stamped junky collage tickets. Scroll down to watch the video.

I started this art journal page by stamping some images from our Mix It Up 4, Mix It Up 5 & Mix It Up 6 stamp sets randomly around the page using waterproof black ink. I then colored the spread with some Distress Ink blending using Scattered Straw, Ripe Persimmon,Aged Mahagony and Peeled Paint. To create texture on the background I am spritzing water through our Cross It stencil onto the page, as well as some watersplatters directly. I let this sit for a bit and then dab the water off.

Whilst the page was drying I prepared the vintage tickets. They are from our Mixed Media Marks 1, Mix It Up 1 and Mix It Up 2 stamp sets. I stamped them with waterproof ink to Canson Mix Media Paper. I inked the paper with Distress Ink in Old Paper and Dried Marigold. I then cut the tickets out, spritzed them with water, crinkled them and used a distress tool to rough out the edges.

I decided to use one of the flowers from our Vintage Stuff stamp set (it’s 10% off in October!) stamp as my focal image. I prepared some more Mix Media paper with the Distress Ink in Old Paper and then stamped the image using Distress Oxides. I inked the blossom with Fossilized Amber and the stem and leaves with Peeled Paint.

To finish up the page I added a bit more stamping tone in tone with the sentiments from the Vintage Stuff stamp set and adhered my elements. I made a title with words from our Mix A Sentiment stamp set. By the way, the art journal I am using is the Canson Graduate Drawing Sketchbook in A6.
