AHOY – Nautical Art Journal Page in Mixed Media

Hi there, Susanne here with a nautical art journal page using our brand new AHOY stamp set! I used a combination of liquid watercolor and acrylic paints for the background. The boats are stamped to a light beige gelli print with some grungy textures going on.

I started the background by laying down some water with a big brush and dropping in some Indian Yellow liquid watercolor. I moved the colour around with a brush until I liked the result. After this was dry I applied acrylic paints with a silicone brush in Cobalt Turquoise and Prussian Blue. In some areas I used my finger to move the paint around.

Whilst the page was drying I cut out my boats and stamped the word AHOY to a map design paper (from a DCVW paper pad). I also stamped the word “journey” from our Mix It Up 6 stamps set to a piece of an old book page that I coloured with some Indian Yellow acrylic paint. Additionally I cut out some more words from the map design paper.

When my background was completely dry I layed down some white acrylic ink loosely with a brush and made some splatters with it. I let that dry again and stamped the anchor, the flying birds and AHOY with different colours to the background.

To create a vintage look I lay down a glace of thinned down acrylic ink in Raw Sienna. That changed the style of the page completely and blended everything together. I adhered the boats and the words I cut out previously.

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
