Spring Inspired Art Journal Page with Watercolors and Collage Fodder

Hi there, Susanne here with a spring inspired spread in my handmade junk art journal using some of our brand new stamps and stencils. I am playing with collage fodder made with our new Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil and two of the cute Textured Birds 2.

I started the background of this page with different collage papers including handmade washi tape, gelli prints and scrapbooking paper. I adhered the torn pieces with a glue stick and covered the whole spread with a layer of clear gesso. I am using watercolors after the gesso was dry to bring in colour. Once this was dry I added a little bit of background stamping with an image from Mixed Media Marks 1. To bring in contrast I used black acrylic paint together with our Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil.

After the stenciled leaves were dry I made some crayon marks with Neocolor II, too.

I also used Brusho Powders to colour in my bird which I’ve stamped to the same paper with Versafine Clair. I am wetting the areas of each bird separately and add in a little amount of powder. A little goes a LONG way here!

To make the botanical elements with the Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil I sprayed water through the stencil onto some mix media paper, removed it immediately and sprinkled the Brushos carefully onto it. You don’t need much powder for this technique and you might have to experiment with the amount of water you use. I have a video at the bottom of the post with a little demo for you!

Here is a glimpse into the process of this art journal spread:

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
