Mixed Media Art Journal Page with Textured Sea Creatures

Hi, I am Heike and for my guest design I would like to share an art journal page with some cute sea creature stamps with you.

Because I want to use water on the page I grounded it with clear gesso before I collaged it with tissue paper some of it I made with a gelli plate and the new “Big Circles” stencil.

For the background I used magical powder and sprayed it with water. For the last layer I mixed the powder with matte medium and used a sponge to apply it through the “Organic #1” stencil. With Distress Picket Fence I created bubbles through the small ink dots stencil.

For the scenery I clear embossed the stamps of the textured sea creatures stamp set with a heat gun and coloured them with Distress Inks.

As for this journal page I do not want the shiny look of the clear embossing I did iron it “away”. Not sure if you can see the difference on the pictures. It is like ironing wax on a paper it soaks into it and all left is the resist colour.

For the water plants I stamped leaves of the sketchy leaves stamp set and the doodle flowers stamp set on gel printed paper. Ok, I escalated a bit and now I have much more than I needed for this page…

Some framing with a Derwent Inktense pencil and some marks before gluing the pieces on the page.

I hope you like it. It turned out to quite an interesting page.
The sea creatures are popping out but if you hold the page into the sun the background shares its magic and is sparkeling like jewlery…
