Journal Cards with Inky Friends and Watercolors

Hi there, Susanne here with a new creative project! Today I am sharing some handmade journal cards that using the gesso resist technique together with watercolors and focal images from our Inky Friends stamp set.

I started these cards by stamping with white gesso to the background. I am using Canson XL watercolor paper. I used stamps from Pencil Marks 2 and Pencil Marks 6 (unfortunately this set is no longer available!). When you stamp with gesso or any other acrylic medium or paint, make sure to clean the stamps well asap! Once the gesso is dry I color the background with watercolors in turquoise and ochre shades. The gesso acts as a resist and will show up once the cards are dry.

Once the backgrounds were dry I stamped a frame around one of the cards with stitching borders from our Mixed Media Marks 1 stamp set. I used the leafy stamps from Pencil Marks 1 on the other. For the focal images I used stamps from Inky Friends. I stamped them with Distress Ink in black soot. After I inked up the stamp I spritzed it with a tiny amount of water and then stamped it to watercolor paper. That gives the images a nice handpainted look.
I used words from Mix A Sentiment to make a title on every card.

I hope you like the cards! Thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
