Journal Cards with Inky Friends and Brushos

Hi there, Susanne here with a new creative inspiration! Today I am sharing some handmade journal cards that using the gesso resist technique together with Brusho pigment powders and focal images from our Inky Friends stamp set.
I started these cards by stamping with white gesso to the background. I am using Canson XL watercolor paper. I used stamps from Pencil Marks 2 and Pencil Marks 6 (unfortunately this set is no longer available!). When you stamp with gesso or any other acrylic medium or paint, make sure to clean the stamps well asap! Once the gesso is dry I wet the cards and sprinkle in some Brusho powders. I am using different colours. The gesso acts as a resist and will show up once the cards are dry.

Another way to create some interesting texture is to stamp onto the dried Brusho background with just water. Spritz your stamp and press it onto the paper.Let this sit for 30 to 60 seconds. Remove the water with a paper towel. This will leave a watermark on the background. I used the harlequin stamp from Pencil Marks 3 on the card, shown underneath.

Once the backgrounds were dry I inked the edges with black ink and did some background stamping with image from Mix It Up 2 on some of the cards. For the focal images I used stamps from Inky Friends. I stamped them with Distress Ink in black soot. After I inked up the stamp I spritzed it with a tiny amount of water and then stamped it to watercolor paper. That gives the images a nice handpainted look.
I used words from Mix A Sentiment to make a title on every card.

I hope you like the cards! Thanks for stopping by today!
xx Susanne
