Mixed Media Card with Textured Sea Creatures & Distress Ink Background

Hi, Selene (@ghouls_and_berries) here today with a summer themed mixed media card using the Textured Sea Creatures and Pencil Marks #1 stamp sets on a Distress Oxide background.

For the background, I used Distress Oxides in blue and greenish shades together with water on my glass media mat and just randomly picked up the colour with some mixed media paper. Once this was completely dry, I added some ink splotches to build up texture and added dimension using gesso together with the Cross It stencil. I added some stamped details in black for more contrast. I cut the background paper with a big post stamp die.
I randomly stamped “seaweeds” from Pencil Marks 1 in cohesive colours with Distress Oxides and fussy cut them. I adhered them to the cards with some craft glue. I used Lindy’s Gang “Mad hatter mint” powder to add some rays of light: it’s slightly glittered and super nice.

I then stamped the rocky seabed with another image from Pencil Marks 1 and the seahorses from Textured Sea Creatures in black ink and coloured them with bright watercolours. I added some pencil details to let them pop up a bit more. I added som white splatters and marks to bring in some highlights and bring in more depth.
I had in mind that a black frame would have added a nice finish to my card, but I was scared I could mess everything up, so… I decided to add stitches: still a frame, but not so invasive. If you don’t have a sewing machine it’s no problem, you will find amazing stitching borders, perfect for mixed media on our stamp sets of the month: Mixed Media Marks 1 and Mix It Up 1. They are 10% off, just in April!
Last but not least, I added a sentiment with a gel pen on black paper and…. job done! If you find it hard to make handwritten sentiments the Mix A Sentiment stamp set might be perfect for you!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope this can be of inspiration and I can’t wait to see your fab projects!
So… don’t forget to tag Rubber Dance when posting your amazing cards.
Hugs, Sele
