Mixed Media Index Cards with Mark Making and Pencil Marks 2

Hi there, Susanne here with two mixed media index cards using a collage background combined with watercolor pencils (actually I used ink-pencils, Derwent Inktense), some mixed media background stamping, mark making and two of leaves from our Pencil Marks 2 stamp set.

I cut the cards (4″ x 5″) from heavy weight watercolor cardboard and adhered some collage pieces with a glue stick. I then covered them in clear gesso. After this was dry I used Derwent Inktense pencils to bring in some color. For a grungy look I used Derwent Charcoal as well. To bring in even more texture I used stamps from our Mix It Up 1 and Pencil Marks 1 sets. To bring in some white for a big tonal range I used the Viarco Art Graf Taylor Shape together with water and a brush. It gives the most opaque white paint.

I added quite a lot of mark making to the cards using Neocolor II crayons and coloured pencils. I love that the Neocolors work opaque on top of darker colours. I made scribbles, dashes and dots. That adds quite a lot of depth to the background. I also made a few splatters with neon red acrylic ink.

My focal images are some leaves from our Pencil Marks 2 stamp set. I stamped them to a watercolor background. To give them something to sit on I adhered them on top of some small collage pieces. The words are from our Mix A Sentiment stamp set.

I hope I could inspire you, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
