Mixed Media Index Cards with Distress Ink Background

Hi there, Susanne here with two fun mixed media index cards using Distress Inks and Oxides for the background and some stamped rice paper for collage. To create the collage paper I used some of the vintage images from our new Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6 stamp sets.

You might have already heard that the Index Card a Day Challenge has started on June 1st. I do not really play in this challenge, but I was super inspired to make some index cards. I while ago I accidentally bought the wrong sized index cards for my daughter and these were just waiting to be used! They are green instead of white, but I don’t mind that.

For the collage paper I used some chinese calligraphy paper, which is a thin brown rice paper with a big grid printed on it. I stamped the paper with images from Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6 using Versafine Clair ink in black. This paper is perfect for backgrounds, especially when you want to work quickly. All the stamping is already done, you just have to adhere bits and pieces to your project.

For the backgrounds I used Distress Inks in Peeled Paint, Forest Moos, Wild Honey and Picked Raspberry. I smooshed the inks to my craft mat, spritzed that with water and then dipped in my cards. I dry the layers in between! For a final layer I used Distress Ink in Antique Linen in the same way.

I made some splatters with Distress Ink in black soot on both cards and with Distress Oxide in Picked Raspberry only on the following card.

My focal points are handdrawn with a permanent fineliner. I dipped them also into Distress Inks to give them some color. I really like the images and maybe there will be a new Collage Leaves stamp set in the future! If you don’t want to draw you can always use a stamped images as a focal point. Our Sketchy Leaves or Collage Leaves are prefect for that! I adhered the botanicals together with a piece of a stamped gelli print and a word from Mix A Sentiment.

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
