Mixed Media Tags with Acrylic Inks and Botanical Collage Fodder

Hi there, Susanne here with a set of mixed media index tags using our Mini Ink Dots stencil for a textured background combined with collage fodder, that I’ve stamped with our Sketchy Leaves. I am colouring the tags with Acrylic Inks and I am using watercolors for the focal images. Scroll down for a full video tutorial.

I cut the tags from mixed media paper and applied some Heavy Gesso through the Mini Ink Dots stencil using a silicone brush. Whilst the gesso was still wet I flattened parts of it with the silicone brush. With this technique I am ending up with three different surfaces: paper, texture and smooth gesso.

Once this was dry I added some pencil scribbles and background stamping with images from Mix It Up 1 and Mixed Media Marks 1.This gives a nice and intersting texture in addition to the stenciling.

I added colour to each tag with Acrylic Inks in Burnt Sieanna paired with Phtalo Turquoise and Raw Sienna combined with Prussian Blue. I knew both combos will layer to a lovely green.

To get two different looks I inked up the edges of two of the tags with Distress Ink in Black Soot. This immediately changes the style to a more grungy one.

My focal images are stamped with the leaves from our Sketchy Leaves set. I used watercolors to colour them in. I also added some highlights with metallic watercolors.
