AHOY – Greeting Card and ATC with a watercolor background

Hi there, Susanne here with some crafty inspiration using our new AHOY clear stamp set on a greeting card and an artist trading card. For the background I used liquid watercolors from Schmincke.

I worked with the Canson XL watercolor paper. I cut the paper into smaller pieces, that would fit my card base. I made more backgrounds at one go, so I have always something ready to finish a quick card if I need one. I added just a few drops of selected colours from the Schmincke Aquadrops to my craft mat. A craft mat or a baking mat works much better for this technique than a glass plate. I spritzed the paints with some water and dipped in my card. I smooshed it around a little. I worked with more layers to create depth and I always dry the layer in between!

Onde the background was dry I added some splatters in white and blue. If you paper is too wrinkly, you can run it through your hot laminator or lay it under some heavy books over night. To build my greeting card I picked some neutral collage papers and created some kind of ocean waves to the bottom. The boat from the AHOY stamp set was stamped to a neutral gel print and cut out. I stamped the word “AHOY” to a piece of yellow collage paper and adhered it to the bottom right.

For the ATC I used a frame die and cut the card with my Sizzix Big Shot. I added some stamping to the background with images from the AHOY stamp set to bring in some more texture. I added some yellow splatters. I stamped one of the smaller boats to a neutral gelli print and cut it out. I also picked a yellow paper for the word “AHOY”. I adhered both to the ATC. Finally I inked the edges with black stamping ink to give the card kind of a frame.

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
