Home Decor: Winter Tale Street with Happy Place Stamp Set

Hello arty friends,

Welcome to a fun tutorial using the gorgeous Happy Place stamp set.

One of my favorite things is to create some crafts for home decor, mainly using 3D mixed media and it’s been a long time since I did any of that so I was really missing it. Are you ready to see how this was made?

I had this little piece of wood with a very simple text to decorate and I wanted to create a winter scene to give it to someone special. So I started with an idea in mind for the houses of the Happy Place set.

First I applied white gesso all over the piece and then I glued a piece of rice paper on top that simulated white wooden planks.

Base for the home decor

I applied a layer of clear gesso over the piece to protect the rice paper from damage from other materials and water.

With a stencil, I applied white crackle paste using a spatula to make it thin, this way it will crackle smaller. I let it air dry so the fractures are better.

Base with crackle paste

I have glued three bamboo sticks together to make the ground for my winter tale. And then I applied some white gesso and also crackle paste on them.
Then I painted the piece, creating a kind of gradient from the lower right corner, with powdered pigments mixed with acrylic medium in different shades of blue.

While all this dries up. I stamped the houses and a cloud from the set Night & Day Big on watercolor paper and painted them with the pigments as if they were watercolors. In addition, I also prepared some pieces of cardboard to give different levels of depth to my houses.

The stamps painted with watercolors

I needed other elements to accompany my stamps and make my decorative piece look like a village street. So I chose some wooden dies and a plastic lantern and painted them with the same colors as the background. I also used embossing powder to help me build a very wintery atmosphere.

Other elements for decoration

Now it’s time to prepare the whole composition of my street and secure it well with a good glue.
I also chose some wood and paper floral elements to give the scene a more romantic look.

Finally, we need to make sure that everything looks the same, so I first applied some gesso with the dry brush technique, just to give a few touches here and there. Then I glued fake snow with a little bit of glitter on all of the elements and let it accumulate in the correct areas.

Now I leave you some photos with details of the project.  I hope you like it as much as I do when making them.

Thank you for your visit and let me wish you a Happy Holidays. See you next year.

Hugs, Priss
