Stamping with Chalk Pastels – Greeting Card using Pencil Marks 7

Lindsey (doodlings_cards) here with a clean and simple (CAS) card design and tutorial for using dry pastels with Versamark ink and the beautiful stamps from Pencil Marks 7.

I’ve also used the dry embossing technique with a stencil for my card background.

If you’ve not used it before, Versamark ink is tacky; it is often used with embossing powder for heat embossing.

Here I’ve used it with my pearlescent chalk pastels, but you can use any kind of similar medium, such as PanPastels or Perfect Pearls, even eye shadow will work! I stamped the smaller flower image from the Pencil Marks 7 stamp set onto white card, then gently rubbed pastels over the stamped image.

The pastels adhere to the Versamark and appear darker in these areas, and then leave a paler colour in the un-inked areas.

I used the same method to create some leaves, using the more “block” leaf designs from the Pencil Marks 7 set.

I can’t resist a bit of glitter and bling, so I used a glue pen and iridescent glitter to accent the flower centres 😊.

For the card background, I’ve used the dry embossing technique with the Big Triangles stencil.

The first photo shows the layers that work with my Big Shot.

Use your base plate with Tab 1, then layer as follows:

  1. Clear Plate
  2. Rubber Mat
  3. Card
  4. Stencil
  5. Clear Plate (or Impression Pad – works a bit better)

That’s it! Roll it through your machine et voilà:

Depending on your die cutting machine, you may need to add a shim.

Here’s a couple of close ups for you.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope to see you again soon.
