Easy Art Journal Page with Neocolor Background and Textured Birds

Hi everybody! Susanne here and I’m sharing an easy mixed media art journal spread today with Neocolor II crayons on top of a Washi Tape collage with a stamp from our Textured Birds 2 and botanical collage fodder made with our Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil. I have a quick process clip for you in the post.

I started the page with a collage using my handmade washi tapes. I shared a full tutorial for them recently in this post. After I’ve adhered the tapes I covered the whole page with a layer of clear gesso. Once this was dry I used some turquoisy and blue Neocolor II crayons and layed them down in a circular shape. I blended the colors with a waterbrush. I added some contrasting colors in orange and yellow to make it more interesting. I let this layer dry completely and then made some dry marks with the crayons on top. I also added some extra stamping with the vintage script stamp from Mix It Up 6 in black. To bring in some highlights I made some white paint splatters.

My focal image is build with one of our Textured Birds 2 and some botanical collage fodder using our Sketchy Leaves 4 stencil together with Brushos. I shared a video clip on these in this post!

To bring in even more highlights and a bit of a different texture I used a gouache stick in white and light turquoise in some areas.

Here is a glimpse into the process:

I hope I could inspire you a little bit, thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
