Nautical Art Journal Inspiration with Textured Sea Creatures

Hi there, Susanne here sharing a mixed media art journal page in my Dina Wakley Media Journal playing with watercolors and stamps from Retro Beach, Take the Plunge, Carved Collection 1 and our Textured Sea Creatures .

I prepped the paper in the journal with white gesso first, as it is very absorbent and would soak in all watercolor immediately. Once dry I added some background stamping with a rusty brown using images from Retro Beach, Take the Plunge, Carved Collection 1 and Mix It Up 1. I then applied watercolors in blue shades and Quinachridone Gold. Once that was dry I scraped a bit of white gesso back on the spread to bring in some highlights. I also added some ink splatters over the top.
I finished the page by stamping background images with stamps from Textured Sea Creatures and Carved Collection 1 again. My focal images are the sea horses and some Sanddollars stamped and embossed separately to mixed media paper. I colored those also with watercolors, cut them out and arranged them on the spread.
