Mixed Media & Watercolors – Art Journaling Tutorial with Stencil Texture & Pencil Marks

Hi there, Susanne here sharing an art journaling video using watercolors together with our Dotted 1 and Ornament 1 stencils and the Mix It Up 7 and Pencil Marks 8 stamp sets. Scroll down for the video!

I picked a page in my art journal that already had some paint on it. It was left over paynes grey acrylics. I covered the whole background with a layer of clear gesso and once that was dry I stamped the word create with our A to Z stamps to the right corner of the page. I then used watercolors to create the background. I worked with neon pink and different granulating colors (mainly from Mijello) I love their texture on the clear gesso. I also like that the colours stay super vibrant on this surface!
After my first layer was dry I spritzed water through our Dotted 1 stencil. I let that sit for about 20 seconds and then dried it with a paper towel. So I got a slight texture with the dot pattern on the background. To bring in even more light areas I used heavy white gesso together with our Ornament 1 stencil. For even more highlights I added some white splatters.

I stamped some textures with the number stamps from Mix It Up 7 and I adhered my focal images. They are made with stamps from Pencil Marks 8. To give the page some kind of a whimsical feel I stamped one of the small flowers from the same set with neon watercolor paint. I just covered the stamp with the paint and stamped it 2-3 times.

I hope you are enjoying the process video:
