Art Journal Page – Distress Ink Smooshing with Stencils

Hi everyone! Susanne here! I am playing in my watercolor journal today using Distress Inks and Distress Oxides together with some of our new stencils. This technique creates a lovely layered background that can be used not only for art journaling also for other mixed media projects like cards, atcs or tags. Scroll down for a full video tutorial on this art journal page.

I am inking up the stencils, spritz them with water and then use them like a stamp to get an impression on my pages. I am drying the layers inbetween to avoid mud and to get a more dimensional look.

I used one of the leaves I’ve made with Brushos and our Sketchy Leaves 1 stencil as my focal image. You will find a tutorial on how this is done here. To give it something to sit on and to make it stand out against the colourful background, I used a big circle that was stamped with our Mix A Sentiment 2023 set.

The sentiment is made with our Mix A Sentiment 2023 stamp set. I have embossed the words in white to black cardstock and then cut the ones out that I wanted to use.

Enjoy watching the video tutorial:

Thanks for stopping by today!

xx Susanne
