Art Journal Page Tutorial with Butterfly Girl

Hello, Samantha here today and I’m sharing a tutorial and another page ready for my art journal. I was inspired by the beautiful, sunny weather we have been enjoying recently here in England. My pages measure 8 inches by 8 inches and I leave enough space to journal on them at a later date.

I began by stamping the sun from the Celestial stamp set and using the sun’s lines as a guide for the sun rays, don’t worry because this all gets painted over!

Then I put down the first colour, just to get a feeling for how and where to place images.

It’s time to start adding some details and for this I used some of the lovely daisy stamps from the Bold and Beautiful stamp set and some white and yellow acrylic paint. I also used some of the leaves from Pencil Marks 3 to fill in some space and add some colour, I used watercolour to colour the leaves, making sure to use a few different shades of green.

I then stamped the Butterfly Girl 2 and sun on to white card.

Then for something that I haven’t done for quite a while and it achieves a wonderful effect, I painted a thin layer of white gesso over my stamped images. Then I drew over the top of the images with an ordinary pencil, it makes the images look like you just drew them with a pencil. I used pencil crayons to colour Butterfly girl and the sun.

The next part is when everything you’ve done comes together on the page. All the finishing touches I really enjoy doing. I randomly stamped the text to add a little more detail and added some white gesso all over the page to soften the colours and decided to add some clouds and some glitter to the sun rays for a little sparkle.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Sam xx
