Mixed Media Art Journal Page with Pencil Marks 3

Hey, it’s Isa here and today I’m excited to show you how to create a mixed media page using acrylics in my handmade art journal.

This technique is perfect for those who love to experiment with different textures and mediums to create unique and beautiful pages.

To start off, I apply a light color with a scraper to loosely cover the background. This will provide a base for the rest of the elements to come together.

Next, I glue down a few scraps of painted papers from my stash with various textures such as copy paper, tracing paper, and tissue paper. The tissue paper features my handwriting and for this, I use gloss medium to adhere it to the page, as I know that the tissue paper will kind of disappear from the surface of the page.

To soften the edges of my collage, I use Indigo watercolor. The gloss medium has created a resist for the watercolor, and I love how it turns out. This adds a subtle but beautiful effect to the page.

Next, I stamp a rainbow in yellow and numbers in blue ink, adding more interest to the page.

Now, it’s time to bring in the focal point, which comes from the Pencil Marks 3 set. I’ve stamped it with Distress Oxide inks, adding a pop of color to the page.

At this stage, the page needs a bit more structure, and I stamp a border, that turned out a bit grungy but lovely.

The final touch is adding tiny dots with a white gel pen to connect the focal point with the collage pieces. This helps to bring the elements together and create a more complete and finished look.

And there you have it – a beautiful mixed media page using acrylics in my handmade art journal! I hope this tutorial has inspired you to try new techniques and experiment with different mediums to create unique and beautiful pages.
