DIY Junk Journal Cards with a Vintage Style

Hi there, Susanne here with a new video tutorial. Today I am creating some cute altered playing cards with a vintage style for your handmade junk journals. I am playing with our Inky Mushrooms stamp set. Scroll down for a video tutorial.

The base of my cards are real playing cards that I still have from my granny. The set was not complete anymore, so I decided to use the cards for some creative projects. A good reason to not throw them away!

I started the cards by painting them with some vintage colors. I used my flash paints. These are vinyl paints, you can use acrylic or gouache instead! I kept a frame on the outside so the playing card stays visible!

Whilst the cards were drying I prepared the mushrooms. To get a more vintage look I used Distress Ink in Ground Espresss for my stamping instead of usual black ink. I stamped the images to watercolor paper and embossed that with clear powder immediately. With this technique the distress inks get waterproof, so they don’t bleed when I colour them in with watercolors. It also gives the images a nice finish.

As mentioned above I used watercolors to color in the stamped images. For the white marks on the mushrooms I used a Posca paint pen and applied it in two layers!

Before adhering the mushrooms to the cards I stamped the numbers from Mix It Up 6 onto the backgrounds using StazOn inks in similar colours.
