Home Decor Tutorial with Textured Birds

Hello, Samantha here today and I’m sharing with you a hanging home decor project, I used three stamps sets; Textured Birds, Pencil Marks 2 and Loose Florals 1 and the very versatile Small Ink Dots stencil. For some extra glamour I am working with metallic paints.

My project started with a piece of cardboard that was too good to throw away and had been lying around my studio for a long time.

I applied some texture paste through the small ink dots stencil and added eyelets for hanging. I also ripped off the top layer of cardboard to reveal the textured corrugated layer, I found it helpful to moisten the cardboard to make this easier.

I gave the cardboard two coats of white gesso and stamped some images from Textured Birds, Pencil Marks 2 and Loose Florals 1 on to white card.

Whilst my stamped images were drying I continued with the background adding some blues and gold, keeping the gold to the corrugated parts.

To add more depth I added some walnut ink and let it drip down and dry. Using more gold acrylic paint I stamped details on to the background making sure to wash my stamps straight away! I also used ink to stamp.

My stamped images were now dry so I coloured them using my favourite watercolour paints. I cut them out and arranged on the background before adhering in to place. Final touches were ribbon for hanging, highlights with posca pens on the rainbows and some white inky splats.

I really love the textures and strong colours and the metallic paint gives another layer of contrast.

Thanks for stopping by, Sam x
