Mixed Media Index Card with Butterflies and Moths

Hi there, Susanne here sharing a mixed media index card with soft pastels and stamps from our Butterflies and Moths and Mix It Up 4 stamp sets.

I worked on a piece of poster board. I love to used this material as a base for index cards, ATCs or journal cards. I started by adhering a few bits of collage paper and covered that with a layer of clear gesso. Once dry I added some stamping using images from Mix It Up 4 to bring texture to the background. For more color and texture I applied softpastels and moved the pigments with water. This gives a really lovely granulating effect.

Once the background was done I stamped one image from the Butterflies and Moths stamp set with Versafine Clair in black to Canson Mix Media paper. I immediately covered the stamped images with clear embossing powder. The embossing would resist the metallic watercolors, that I used to colour the butterfly. Metallic watercolors are perfect for butterflies. They give them a really lovely shimmer. Once the butterflies were dry I cut them out and adhered them to the cards together with more collage papers. I added some mark making with an orange Neocolor II crayon.
