Memory Dex Card with Grungy Butterflies

Hello crafty friends!

Today Priss is speaking! This time I bring you a little tutorial to inspire your projects for the February Rubber Dance Moodboard. So I hope you enjoy it.

I had a piece of cardboard from a small box. I love the kraft color of it and its smooth texture, so I only stained it a bit with small splashes and spots of my lightest Distress Oxide ink.

I then used a die to cut out the base of the Memory dex card.

After that, I played around with my favorite stamps for backgrounds, Mixed Media Marks 1 and Mixed Media Marks 3 sets.

Meanwhile, I was discarding excess ink onto scraps of tissue paper and cardstock to make collage fodder for other projects. If you want to know more about ‘Collage Fodder’ dive into the internet and discover a wonderful world of possibilities.

I also used some washi tape and crackle paste on both stamped corners to give the background more texture, layers, and depth.

But I needed a focal point or two and I love these beautiful Grungy Butterflies.

So I used a technique I discovered a long time ago with a happy mistake and that is to stamp with Distress Oxide Ink and use clear embossing powder, but when using the heat gun to melt the powder, make sure it’s not all perfectly melted.

This allows some ink to remain not embossed (very light). So when I start painting with the inks as if they were watercolors, the ink from the embossed stamp mixes with the water and the other inks, creating this faded effect.

Now it’s time for composition. I chose a piece of vellum paper, a small piece of cheesecloth, some fabric, two portions of silk ribbon, and the ‘General Admission’ stamp distressed and split in two, to create a holder for the butterflies and stapled twice it all to the card.

Then I distressed the card borders with a brown Stabilo all in one, and as usual, I made some splatters with white liquid paint for the final touch.

Now I leave you with a few detailed pictures of my project.

I really hope you like it and encourage you to create your own. Join the fun and link up your creations using Rubber Dance stamps in the Rubber Dance Stamping Lounge.

Hugs, Priss
