Small mixed media cards with Textured Birds and Stencils

Hey there, its Evi today with a set of small mixed media cards and a tutorial showing you how I made the background with the Marks 2 and Small Triangles stencils, stamps from the Mix It Up 4 and a shimmery effect. My focal images are the lovely Textured Birds 2.

First of all I choose the stencil which I thought would work well with the Textured Birds 2. I really like the Marks 2 stencil and thought that the horizontal drawing would fit well here. I used two distress colors in shades of green and blue and sprayed them over the stencil. After that I used the ingenious tacky when dry glue, and used a spatula to spread the glue over the Small Triangles stencil. It took a while to dry, in the meantime I stamped the birds and heat embossed them with black embossing powder.

After the glue had dried, I put a sheet of foil over it and pressed it down firmly by hand. I think the result is great, a bit of shine suits these cards perfectly. I added some stamps of the Mix It Up 4 stamps and then sewed around two sides of the cards, but this also works great with border stamps.

I painted the birds with watercolors and stamped a sentence of the Textured Birds 2 stamp set on vellum and heat embossed them. I then glued on the text and birds and am very pleased with how the cards look in the end.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and that you now have a lot of fun creating your cards with stamps and stencils.

xx Evi
