Blue flowers for you today – a mixed media card

Hi from Åshild! Some days are perfect for the blues and today I am sharing a card making tutorial with the Mix It Up 7 stamp set and the Organic 4 stencil. And yes, I know, I seldom use blue as my main color when I create cards, but that was the color that spoke to me today, so here you are – some blues for you!

The card turned out to be a real mixed media one, with several techniques and media used. But still it’s quite simple and easy to make. You just has to do it step by step, layer by layer.

I want to use the squared text stamp later, so first of all I place it where I later will stamp it, and then align the masking tape around the stamp.
Then I use the stencil and 3 colors of Distress Ink, the darkest on top of the card, the lightest on the bottom.
After removing the stencil, I use the used blending sponge to give the white parts some light blue color.
I stamp the squared text stamp with Versamark embossing ink and add white heat embossing powder.
Before heating the powder, I remove the masking tape and shake off any leftover powder.
The finished embossed text looks like this.
As my focal point on the card, I’ll use the beautiful flower, and I stamp several of them in embossing ink.
After adding powder, I use the HeatIt to create the stylish heat embossing effect.
4 flowers ready for the next step. Look how cool the “popping” white lines are! I love heat embossing.
And heat embossed motifs are easy to color with watercolors. Or with ink directly from the pads.
Fine cut the flowers and place it on the card.
This time I’m not gluing the flowers to the background. I’m using a piece of ribbon on top of the stems and the sewing machine to “lock” them in place.

Thanks for stopping by today!
xx Ashild
