Mixed Media Art Journal Page with Pencil Marks 1

Hi there, Susanne here with a mixed media art journal page in one of my handmade junk art journals using collage, acrylic inks, mark making and some stamping. As my focal image I used the botanical images from Pencil Marks 1 and words from Mixed Sentiments 1.

I started the background of this page with different collage papers such as gelli prints, stamped book paper and a bit of my handmade washi tape (Tutorial is linked at the bottom). I adhered the torn pieces with a glue stick and covered the whole spread with a layer of clear gesso. I am using acrylic inks after the gesso was dry to bring in colour. I love the neon pink together with the yellow together with the turquoise background paper! Once this was dry I added a little bit of background stamping with images from Mix It Up 1 and mark makings with Neocolor and Posca pens.

I used a white Neocolor to bring in some highlights here and there and I also scribbled some light blue marks with a pencil.

To finish the spread up I added sentiments made with Mixed Sentiments 1.

  1. I am intrigued… I have made many art journals but i always love yours… but i see fabric.. is it only the cover? or are the pages fabric and then covered with paper, etc?

    • Thank you so much. Yes, I sometimes use fabric for the cover. I then just sew the fabrics (in and outside) I like together and leave two pockets, on for the front an one for the back, to put in some cardboard. I then close the pockets. I leave a little gap for the spine in between. I hope this makes sence. My pages are only paper.

      • I THINK I understand… is there any chance you could send me a photo of the ‘pockets’ so I can see if it’s what I imagine? I’d love that.
Thanks so much for your replies.

        Ruth
