Mushroomy Mixed Media Tag with Gel Press Background
Hello you! Selene on the blog today!
Here’s a mixed media tag I made using the new and super cute Textured Mushrooms 2 stamps together with some of my gelli prints.
Want to know how I made it? Here you go!
First of all, I collected a bit of backgrounds I made using stamps and stencils with acrylic colours on the gel press plate, tore them into smaller pieces and glued them together in order to have a textured background.
Then, I went in with Organic 2 stencil and gesso to add more texture and merging the different piece of papers a bit.
While I was waiting for the gesso paint to dry, I stamped a few mushrooms using different techniques and randomly coloured them to have wider a choice when I had to pick the focal image for this tag. You know, I usually start a project and have no idea of how it will look like, so… better be prepared! 😀
I used black Versafine + watercolours or distress oxides/inks directly on the stamps for a coloured border line.
I also wanted to add a few elements on the background, so I used the Big Triangles stencil with distress oxides and a spark of water on paper to get a net that I cut out and glue on the background. I also added more texture and context by stamping elements on the background in different colours, such as pink, violet and black – I used Doodle Flowers 2 and Mix it up 4 (let me say that this one is among my favs!!!!)
I finally started to sort my cute mushrooms onto my tag and figure out how to manage the space.
Of course something was missing… and what could that “something” be, if not a sentiment? 😀
A to Z set is just amazing for the purpose, because the loose letters allow you to say and stamp whatever you want! I stamped the word “soar” both in outlined and plain letters, just to figure out which one was better for my composition.
The outlined letters looked much better, but in pink they were not so visible 🙁 I gave a go to the black ink, but it looked too strong, so I decided to fill the letters with a decorative yarn. The process was quite easy: Nuvo glue on the letters, yarn on top of it and the game is done!
I finally glued and pasted everything together, added a few withe splashes on the mushrooms and a nice ribbon.
I hope you like it!
