Mixed Media Tags with Sketchy Birds and Distress Ink Background

Hey there, my lovely crafters! It’s your girl Priss @artful.layers back again, and I’m happy to share my latest mixed-media creations with you. These two gorgeous tags burst with intense colors, funny layers, and plenty of textures. I had so much fun making them and I can’t wait to show you the details.

For this project, I use a piece of A5 size cardboard that then I cut in half. But previously I glued some absorbent paper to it that I had stained with intense pigments in green, blue, purple and golden, which formed spectacular designs of colors and shine.

I also used the lovely Rainbows 2 stencil and the gorgeous stamps set Mix it Up 4 (my new favorite) to create some patterns and textures in the background and make it more interesting. For the stamps I used oxide inks in colors that perfectly match the colors of the background, and for the stencil I choose black ink to add some contrast.

I had fun playing with the stencil Marks 1! I used some white texture paste to create a gorgeous contrast and brighten up the background. It’s amazing how a little touch of white can add so much depth and character to a project.

My tags showcase the stunning birds from the Sketchy Birds set, which I painted using pigments as watercolors to give them a soft look. To personalize them, I stamped small flowers and stars on their bellies. I used acrylic paint markers to add details and accentuate the little decorations.

The stars I used are from Journal Notes set and the flowers are from the set Whimsical Summer.

I usually don’t place a focal point without a ‘bed’ to support it. For this particular instance, I’ve used scraps of book pages, a tangle of threads, and a leave from the Pencil Marks 5 set that I’ve embossed in white on vellum.

I used black cardstock and white embossing powder to prepare my sentiment “I LOVE YOU” from Flowers Gone Wild set. Then I put it over threads, a tiny scrap of book page and a ribbon that I painted with the same blue pigment.

Check out these pics to get a closer look at my tags. Hope you enjoy them!
