Use your Stamps on your Gel Plate & Mixed Media Card Making

Hi! It’s Laura on the Rubber Dance blog today and I have a fun tutorial for you on how you can use your stamps on your gelli plate to create beautiful backgrounds and collage papers – but I will also show you how you can turn your print into a mixed media card using one of the lovely Sketchy Birds as my focal image.

There is a full YouTube Tutorial which you will find below but here are the steps I took to create this card.

First, to create the background I added some black acrylic paint to my non stick mat and used a brayer to pick up some of the paint evenly which I then brayered onto my stamps. I then stamped onto my gel plate. Once I had some flowers and text on my gel plate I let the paint dry.

When the paint was dry (it doesn’t take too long!) I added some pink paint to the flowers using a paint brush. I also added some red paint to the centres of the flowers too. Once this layer was dry I was able to add some lilac paint to my gel plate to take the final pull. This created a beautiful, textured background paper that I then used to create my card with.

For my focal element I chose a bird from Sketchy Birds 2 which I had water coloured. First, I stamped the post card text on some rice paper and gave it a torn edge. I used some Matte Medium to stick it down. I added some cotton thread and then popped my bird on top with some foam tape. The sentiment was white heat embossed on black card and also popped on some foam tape.

You can find my video tutorial here:

I really hope you like my finished mixed media card and I hope that you try your stamps on your gel plate! It really does create some fun effects!

Happy Crafting!
