Mixed Media Tag Tutorial with Textured Sea Creatures

Hi you all! Selene today on the blog with a tutorial to craft super colourful bookmarks with the Textures Sea Creatures and Pencil Marks 7 stamps sets on some gorgeous inky backgrounds. To add even more interest on the background I am using images from Pencil Marks 1.
So… let’s go!!!
I started with an opaque white gesso base on crafting paper, because I wanted to get a smooth surface where colours could settle creating poodles and keeping their shine.
I die-cut 6 tags out of it and then I spread water and calligraphy inks by Hamburg Ink on this base. Hamburg Inks are fabulous as they super pigmented, can be used as watercolours but they do not fade like watercolours do when they dry.

Be careful!
You can lay colours on the wet surface at the same time, if they get along well, like blue and purple. If you use orange and green, let one layer dry before applying the other, to avoid mud (unless you want mud!!!) 😀
Next step: add texture to the background!
I added some splotches using the inks left and then I started stamping elements on the background.
I used Pencil Marks 1 stamps set with Distress Oxides or Nocturne Versafine Clair ink.
Next, I stamped the focal images from Textured Sea Creatures and Pencil Marks 7 stamps sets on tracing paper and embossed them white and pink embossing powder, then fussy cut them. The idea was to use vellum, but I run out of it!

Time to put everything together, add some sentiments and… tadaaaaa! Job done!

I hope you like them and that you can get some inspiration out of these!
