Mixed Media Tutorial – Art Journal Page with Sketchy Birds

Hello, Samantha here today and I’m sharing a tutorial showing how I made another page ready for my art journal. I am creating a layerd mixed media background. My focal images is one of the cute Sketchy Birds 2. This was a joyful page to create with great colours and an upside down bird!

I created the background using white gesso, just three colours and the hearts stamp from the Mix It Up 3 stamp set.

I stamped the foliage stamp also from Mix It Up 3 and because I wanted to mute the colours slightly I scraped some white texture paste in random places.

I then stamped one of the cute birds from the Sketchy Birds 2. stamp set on to white card and coloured using coordinating coloured watercolours.

To arrange my page and to get the birds and their legs in the right place I stamped the bird on to my page, (they’re standing on a twig I painted with brown paint), doing this also let me plan more of the background and where I would stamp words from the Mixed Sentiments 1 stamp set.
