Colourful Mixed Media ATCs Tutorial

Hey, hey, hey! Selene here today with an easy ATC tutorial using Distress Crayons for the background together with the cute heart stamps from Mixed Media Marks 1.
ATCs size is just perfect when you want to make something quick and try new techniques leaving any fear of failure behind!
I worked a lot on the background, because… layers are all, but let’s start from the very beginning.
After cutting the paper (ATCs are 2.5 x 3.5 inches) I chose a stamps that could fill the whole card from Mix it Up 4 set and heat embossed it with clear powder.
This process allows the embossed parts to resist any water medium applied on top of them.
For these cards I used Distress Crayons: these are wonderful as you can carelessly scribble here and there and then smooth them out with a finger, blending them in an easy and fast way.

As they are also water reactive, I then decided to use water and a brush to blend them even more. Once they were dry, I used a blending brush and “Black Soot” distress oxide ink on Marks 3 stencil to add texture on the background.

Then, I stamped bubbles from Pencil Marks 1 set with lack Versafine Clair ink and, as I found that they were sinking a bit too much into the background, I decided to put an accent on them using white acrylic paint. With the leftover I splashed a bit of ink on the background (Have I already mentioned that splashing and splotching are among my favourite things to do…? )
And last but not least, circles stamped in black ink and a touch of black liner around the bubbles closed the background.
I find them so cute!

As a focal image I decided to stamp hearts, a timeless subject!
After being watercoloured and splashed, they were ready to be pasted on the ATCs. I finally added coloured sewing thread, ribbons and… my cards were finally complete!

Here’s the final result. They’re so pretty, aren’t they?

I hope you like the final result and that you may decide to give it a go!
