Make lovely Backgrounds with Distress Inks, a Mini Gel Plate & Stencils

Lindsey (doodlings_cards) with a tutorial for using mini gel plates with stencils and Distress Inks to make CAS (clean & simple) backgrounds for your cards.

Mini gel plates are thinner than the standard larger Gelli plates. It’s usual practice therefore to put them on a large acrylic block.

I used mini Distress Ink cubes and a small brayer to spread the ink on the gel plate. Once inked up, gently place a stencil on top – don’t move it unless you want a smudged print!

Then carefully peel the stencil off and pull a print.

First up was the Wheels stencil in different colour ways.

Then I had a play with other stencils: Ornament 1, Small Triangles and Dotted 1.

It’s easy to mix the Distress Inks – just brayer a couple of times to mix the inks and and make secondary colours.

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration to get inky! Thanks so much for stopping by.
